The Other Elohim

Day 24

Read Exodus 32:7-8

And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Read Romans 1:22-23

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Elohim is the name for God in the Bible. It is also the name for other gods or idols. In its capitalized form, it represents the creator God of the Bible and of Israel. When it is not capitalized, it refers to the idols that have replaced God in our lives. Any of us that turn away from “Elohim” will serve “elohim.” Which are you serving?

Prayer – Identify and forsake any idol that is taking God’s place and return to worship and serve our Elohim. (Check where you spend your time and money and you will identify a possible idol. You can also ask your spouse or children what they think is important to you.)
