What is PRCC?

Pacific Rim Christian Camp, a ministry of Harvest Baptist Church, reaches out to the island of Guam through a variety of camps. The first part of the summer consists of educational opportunities in a classroom setting as you assist in our Cool School program. You will lead, counsel, and interact with students from diverse backgrounds. You will also be given ministry opportunities in Harvest Baptist Church throughout the summer. These opportunities include teaching Sunday school classes, helping with our children’s ministry (C2C) and youth group (H4C), assisting with VBS, participating in music ministries, running games for church events, and more. During the latter part of the summer, you will be a vital part of our overnight camps as either a counselor or member of our program staff. During these two weeks, you will have the opportunity to counsel, disciple, and lead a cabin of campers.

What makes Guam different? Why should I choose PRCC?

Guam is a unique place with a family-centered culture and welcoming environment. You will make fun memories, experience new adventures, and form meaningful relationships. But the most important thing for you to know is that Guam desperately needs the Lord. The students and campers that you meet will come from a wide variety of backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to minister to children and teens by teaching them, counseling them, and building relationships with them. You will gain practical experience in a classroom setting, a church setting, and a camp setting. The most important thing that you will do as a team member this summer is share the Gospel and influence Guam for eternity.

Team members will arrive before Cool School starts and have about a week of training. During this training week, team members will learn about the different parts of camp, the summer schedule, the island, and the church. Team members who teach will plan lessons and set up their classroom, and team members who are hired to lead an extracurricular activity (art, music, PE) will prepare activities and set up their areas. This week of training will provide adequate time for team members to prepare for Cool School.

Cool School is an academic day camp with lessons and fun activities for students in K4-6th grade. Each day consists of academics, chapel, and extracurricular activities.

A typical day of Cool School will vary for each team member, but the day will generally begin with assembly. This is a combined activity for 1st-6th grade with games and songs.

After assembly, each class will have lessons in subjects such as reading, math, and science. In the morning, students also go to recess, lunch, and chapel. During chapel, students sing songs, learn verses from Scripture, and hear a Bible lesson.

In the afternoon, students go to extracurricular activities such as music class, PE, and art class. Afterwards, students are dismissed during car line. After car line, any remaining students are taken to extended care. Each team member stays and assists in extended care once a week.

If you teach in the classroom, you will only be teaching for a couple hours each day of Cool School. You will be with your class for the entire school day, but you will only teach 3-5 subjects per day. Each lesson lasts 20-30 minutes.

If you teach a kindergarten class, you will be in the classroom for the entire day. You will teach additional lessons such as Bible and art. The kindergarteners also have nap time every day.

The material you teach will also vary depending on the grade you teach. The subjects taught in Cool School are reading, writing, math, and science. The kindergarten classes also have a Bible lesson and an art time in their classroom.

A scope and sequence will be provided, and you will be given access to the Harvest prep room. The prep room has computers, printers, art supplies, and much more for you to use.

If you lead an extracurricular activity (art, music, or PE), you will prepare activities and games for each day.

International Camp is a two week ESL (English Second Language) program during the last two weeks of the summer. In the morning, the ESL team members will teach a Bible lesson and ESL lessons. In the afternoon, elementary students will participate in extracurricular activities. Middle school and high school students will only attend for half of the day and will have all the morning activities.

Adventure Camp happens the last two weeks of the summer. If you stay for Adventure Camp, you will have Bible, ESL lessons, recess, and lunch. The second half of the day will be a field trip. You and your students will visit different areas around the island as you learn about Guam.

The students in Adventure Camp will vary in their English proficiency, but team members who stay for International Camp will be able to help their students through the ESL lesson and daily activities.

You will attend church every Sunday. You will also assist with several church ministries. Each team member will lead a children’s Sunday school twice during the summer. (These Sunday school classes take place during the morning service.)

During the midweek service, team members will serve in one of the following areas: youth group (H4C), children’s ministry (C2C), or nursery.

Once a week, there will be an Open Court Night for our youth group. Team members have the opportunity to come play games, fellowship with the teens, and build relationships with church members during Open Court Night. Throughout the summer, the youth group (H4C) will have youth activities that team members will join.

There will also be a week of Vacation Bible School during the summer. Team members will lead a group of children each night and assist in games, songs, and scripture memory.
